TESTING – THE WHYS AND WHATS

 

Tupelo Christian Preparatory School (TCPS) makes every effort to insure that your child will succeed in Kindergarten. By testing, TCPS develops an understanding of the nature of your child’s development. A sample of your child’s skills in a broad range of areas including fine and gross motor, general knowledge, language, preacademic/academic, and graphomotor development is tested.

 

Some examples of the kindergarten child’s basic assessments are as follows:

 

Spatial skills and knowledge

  • Visual/Fine/and Graphomotor – copies horizontal line, prints first name
  • Gross motor – hops on one foot
  • Quantitative Concepts – counts to 10; matches quantities with numbers 1-5
  • Personal information – gives name, age

 

Understanding and Reading

  • Receptive Vocabulary – points to body parts; follows one and two step directions
  • Pre-reading/reading – visually discriminates shapes and uppercase letters

 

Expressive Language

  • Expressive Vocabulary – names colors; names pictures
  • Articulation/Verbal/Fluency/Syntax – use of complete sentences
